I increased ponds once thinking frogs and fish are a good food supply, but increasing mobs cause them to spawn places they don’t normally spawn and then it’s hard to find a safe place to camp away from them. I wouldn’t mess too much with mob spawns. Short winter (and summer if you’re playing RoG) as this means you can get a feel for the season without having to endure it for too long. Increase food supplies (carrots, berry bushes, etc) and set pieces (this will make managing hunger and finding supplies you don’t have to use your own resources for easier)
